Rice already gone?
By all accounts this is his last season with us and, mentally at least, he may already have left - time will tell if his form drops as the season progresses. The big question is how Moyes is planning to replace him come this time next year.

I love the way the MSM has swiftly moved into towing the line that celebrates the wonderful news that Manchester United are rescuing a half decent player from a nothing club, who will instantly become great once he plays for them, at the same time as saying he isn't worth £100 million.

I understood the new recruitment guru (newman) will have dispensed with his garden leave and be on board by the next transfer window. If so hopefully he and Moyes will deal with all transfer activity and Sullivan will not be the main player.

Very much the way I see it as well. If the club doesn’t do anything silly when a below-par offer comes in, he won’t be creating the pressure to accept it because he is a pro.

People will find this way beyond the scope of their gnat-arse tight horizons, but that’s just cheap media fodder and nothing to do with the REAL WORLD.

If there is a buyout figure and multiple clubs offer it it is out of our hands and they all have the opportunity to convince him to join THEM.
There is no need or anything to gain by offering more

My biggest concern about losing Rice has been the reinvestment of funds - traditionally we've never done that well and I simply don't trust GSB.
Moyes actually makes me a lot more positive in this regard. It would be a big loss, but could make us stronger.
Soucek for captain?

Agreed. It will still be a big shame when he leaves. Will need another captain too.

Agreed. But still, there's something unwanted about losing a great player who's been one of your own. That's what irks. Or will irk when the time comes.

Rice is a gentleman. He's been brought up with decent values, has had his knocks, and has come out stronger for it.

If and when he does go, he'll do it in a respectful way. West Ham is branded in his heart now, and always will be.

toad - Yep, exactly.

Whisper it quietly, but with Moyes track record in the market, if we can get close to the numbers being banded around for Rice and then re-invested in new players, that would very likely make us better.

We managed fine before he was in the team and we'll be fine after he's gone.

Did Leicester capitulate after they sold Kante and Mahrez? No, they bought in Ndidi, Maddison, Tielesman.

Re: Rice already gone?
Just supposing he does sign a new contract with a buyout clause - just say £100m for the sake of argument.

What happens if Man City offer to meet that price, but then Chelsea decide to show an interest.

Do we then have the right to try and push the price up, selling to the highest bidder? Would that qualify as keeping our side of the bargain as we would still be letting him go? Or is the price set? Does it become about Declan pushing for the best deal (wages etc.) he can get?

4 hours ago Deccers posted on Instagram a video of him doing various tackles, scoring etc to say thanks for 1 million followers. The video clip is about 45 seconds and 90% of it is him playing for West Ham, seems proud to be playing for us IMO

I’d say so. Ego ruins careers and being an international is a far more important boost to a growing ego...

He's taken all his West ham United pictures down and replaced them with England, on Instagram and Twitter

Does that tell you anything ? or am I reading too much into it

That could be their strategy harold but at the moment there is no sign it really is.

Re: Rice already gone?
The club may put a 100m release clause on him, but could sell for less. You should always ask for more, hoping to get somewhere near it.

Hammer and Pickle 1:42 Mon Sep 6
Re: Rice already gone?
If the “release clause” has not been agreed by the player, it is not even an annex to the employment contract. It is just a unilateral declaration by the club signalling it is not about to sell and terminate the contract early from its side whatever the player wants or not.

So Edward is of course talking bollocks as usual.
